Domain comparison

Namecheap vs GoDaddy for domain names

The right registrar keeps your domain affordable and under your control. Compare the exact extension and full ownership lifecycle, not only the first-year promotion.

Independent decision guide. Information and provider terms can change. Check the current plan and renewal terms with the provider before purchase.

First year is not the whole price

Look up your exact name and extension in Namecheap's pricing table and GoDaddy's domain search. Record registration, renewal and transfer prices for the same term and region. Check whether privacy and ICANN or registry fees are included.

Compare account controls

Look for two-factor authentication, domain lock, accessible DNS settings, renewal reminders and a clear process for obtaining a transfer authorization code. Your business should own the account and recovery email regardless of the registrar. ICANN explains the transfer process and valid restrictions.

Check the surrounding services

If you also need email, website building or hosting, compare those services separately. A cheap domain does not automatically make the bundle inexpensive, and a domain can be connected to hosting elsewhere. Our domain vs hosting guide explains how.

A sensible decision

Choose whichever provider gives you clear renewal terms, the controls you need and a checkout total you accept. Because prices and promotions change, this page deliberately avoids declaring a permanent cheapest winner. Save the current pricing and terms before you purchase.
