For a business site, a few hours offline or a lost lead can cost more than a cheap annual plan saves. Prioritize recovery, ownership and dependable support.
Decide whether the site is only informational, generates leads, books appointments or processes orders. Note when it must be available and who can respond to an outage. A simple brochure site can often start on shared hosting; a busy store may justify more resources and closer monitoring.
A checkbox that says “backup” is not a plan. Confirm frequency, retention, off-site storage, whether databases and media are included, restore speed and whether a test restore is possible. Keep at least one independent backup for critical content. Document who can access it if the primary administrator is unavailable.
Make sure the business controls its domain registration, DNS, hosting account and billing email. Use multi-factor authentication and separate staff access where possible. Record renewal dates. The domain guide covers registrar choices, while domain vs hosting clarifies ownership boundaries.
Ask a specific question about migration, backups or a plugin you use. Check available channels and support hours. Consider staging for updates, an upgrade path, clear resource limits and the cost of moving away. Use our total-cost worksheet before purchasing.
